What Is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique that involves inserting thin, sterile needles into specific muscle areas known as trigger points. This method aims to alleviate muscle tension, enhance blood flow, and reduce pain. Unlike acupuncture, which is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling is based on modern Western anatomical and neurophysiological principles.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you have to pop my joints?

No. We offer a low-force technique that is a series of micro-adjustments, which are less abrupt than a standard adjustment and don’t usually produce a popping sound.

I also have arm and leg pain, do you treat that?

Yes. We will perform a series of dynamic nerve tension tests that will help us decipher if the pain is coming from a nerve in your spine, or caused by an issue in the shoulder or hip joint itself. We find the best results occur whenever we treat the spine on the same side as the painful limb. If needed, we will form a plan of care exclusively for the extremity complaint.

How long does this take?

Much can be accomplished in a trial of care or six-visits. A fairly new complaint will likely resolve, and a chronic complaint will likely exhibit great improvements in that timeframe.

Do you accept insurance?

We are primarily cash-based so that we can offer a wider range of treatment options to deliver you with the best results. A standard visit in our office will utilize dry-needling or myofascial release as part of the treatment plan, which are not covered under most Plans.dae.

Can I use my HSA card to pay for treatment?

Yes, you can use your HSA. Simply use the card numbers on your HSA card when transacting payment.

Does this hurt?

Sometimes adjusting a tender joint can be painful or unpleasant, but is generally fleeting. Dry-needling or MFR can be painful if applied vigorously however, I will be in open communication with you to make sure you are in the least amount of pain possible during your chiropractic visit.

What can I expect from a trial of care?

Initial visits are focused on relieving pain in your main complaint areas, whereas subsequent visits we will introduce stabilization exercises to insure longer lasting results. In these follow-up visits we will also have time to address any secondary complaints, like shoulder, wrist, knee, or foot pain for example.

Do I need an X-ray?

In the absence of acute trauma or red-flags for serious disease, it is not medically necessary to perform x-rays prior to rendering PT or Chiropractic care. In the event that a patient did not respond as expected to a “trial” of care, then X-rays are warranted. About 3-4 weeks of consistent care. A detailed history and thorough exam screen for both trauma and red-flags.

I’ve been told I’m “bone-on-bone,” can this even help me?

Yes. Typically myofascial pain or trigger-points are secondary to any degenerative joint condition, which can cause movement dysfunctions or even pain around the joint. Releasing these myofascial disruptions can play a huge role in restoring mobility or function. Even in severe cases, 40% improvement is often impactful to restoring quality of life.

What is myofascial release?

MFR is a deep-tissue massage technique that emphasizes a series of sustained pressures applied over these muscle-knots or tender-nodules in the muscle to release the tension. This can be uncomfortable at times, but effective at eliminating or reducing symptoms caused by these often chronic trigger-points.

What is Dry-needling, can it help me?

Dry-needling is an acupuncture technique that has been modified to suit western medical philosophies in its application. In our clinic it is often used in place of the “MFR” technique, and is a more comfortable way to restore muscle function and relieve pain. About 5-10 needles are inserted ~10-20mm beneath the skin and removed after 1-3 minutes. Under normal circumstances, you can expect less pain and tension after treatment.

I don’t have pain, could I still benefit from this?

Yes. Chiropractic care can improve your daily performance in more ways than one. If you’re an athlete or someone who enjoys being active, this can reduce your recovery time after big workouts and even help improve your performance. Many people who have physically demanding jobs enjoy this added performance benefit. Other wellness benefits include: better sleep quality, improved moods, lower blood pressure, and it can play a vital role in restoring your immune system by reducing neural tension all over your spine!squam et deserunt, recusandae.

Routine spinal adjustments to promote wellness by reducing neural tension start at $100/mo and earns you a dedicated time slot each week to have your spine adjusted. If you have recurring hip, shoulder, ankle or wrist pain that benefits from routine treatment, plans start at $150/mo and earns you a time-slot each week when we will adjust your spine and extremities. Our highest level of service begins at $200/mo and is a great option for athletes or anyone active who is currently focused on a fitness goal.
